Health and Safety Risks of Nanotechnology
Nanotechnology is the study of extremely small structures, devices or materials. Although nanotechnology is a wonderful and useful thing it also has its risk factors. There are such a large number of things influencing the toxicity of nanoparticles it makes it really hard for scientist to generalize about health risk with the exposure to these particles. The size and shape of these particles allow them to be taken in very easily by the body which could weaken the body’s defense system. Scientist are worried that nanotubes have the potential to cause damage to the lungs and also could cause a deadly cancer. It also has the potential to harm the environment and tissue damage to some animals. This could be a big safety and health factor to the people and environment that is being exposed to the nanotubes. Scientist believe that nanomaterials as a whole are not that toxic, but haven’t been able to do enough research and testing to prove that completely true yet.
