Ferrofluids: Liquid Metal
Stop for a minute and think of what metal looks like. It's usually shiny, like gold jewelry, magnetic, like iron fillings, and hard, like a thick piece of steel. But what happens when that metal is broken into nano sized particles? Ferrofluids, which are made of nano particles of iron dissolved in water or another liquid, are solutions that move around in the presence of magnets; they're just like liquid metal! Watch the video below for a demonstration of the cool properties of ferrofluids.
Mystic Nano Sand
If you've ever been to the beach, you know what sand looks like. It's usually a light beige color, with millions and millions of tiny, gritty particles covering the ground. Whenever the ocean washes up on the shore, the sand soaks in the water, making it easier to build sandcastles. But when you break sand down into the nano level, it gains some pretty unique properties. Watch the video below to find out what makes nano sand so interesting.
